The short answer
For croissants in East Harlem, Frenchy Coffee at 129 East 102nd Street makes them in the café every day: butter croissants, chocolate croissants and everything croissants. It is a family-owned French café and bakery between Park and Lexington Avenues, open from 7 am on weekdays and 8 am on weekends.
The croissants
- Butter croissant: the classic, flaky and golden.
- Chocolate croissant: the pain au chocolat, croissant dough rolled around chocolate.
- Everything croissant: a croissant with an everything-bagel-style topping.
- Croissant sandwiches: ham and Swiss, turkey and brie, or smoked salmon and cream cheese.
- Croffles: croissant dough pressed in a waffle iron, from $9. Croffles in East Harlem.
Prices for single croissants are on the counter, and the selection changes through the day.
Why they taste French
The café was opened by Perrine and Aurélien, who come from Évian-les-Bains in the French Alps, and many of its pastries come from family recipes. Have a croissant the way people do in France: with a café au lait, $4.00 for 10 oz.
